Nelson House – Housing, Surrey

In 2004 DEB were appointed by Turnstone Estates, the owners of a vacant office building (Nelson House) adjacent to Walton on Thames railway station to act for them in trying to secure a Planning Permission for a residential development of around 60 flats. They had previously failed with other Architects. In the event Turnstone sold the site to Bewley Homes, who engaged us to assist them in seeking their own Planning Permission, which we duly secured, for a slightly modified scheme, with the Local Authority’s Urban Design Advisor reporting that “in urban design terms this is a refreshingly bold and architecturally forceful scheme, well tailored to the particular site and taking full account of the railway constraints”. The site has now been developed.
